SPOILER WHORE Got Forwood – Tyler & Caroline Speculation – Crying Wolf – The Vampire Diaries

Do you want fries with your Forwood unicorn burger?

The Vampire Diaries : Werewolves Do It In Chains

These guys = Forwood mortal enemies

Spoilers and speculation abound! Matt fans tread carefully because I’m a Tyler girl. You have been warned.

I found out recently that being a Vampire Diaries fangirl can be hazardous to your health. When I read the episode description for upcoming episode Crying Wolf (S02E14), the last line made me laugh so much I ALMOST CHOKED ON MY OWN SPIT.

Even by my accident prone standards, that would’ve been an embarrassing way to go.

Share in the hilarity here:

SECRETS AND LIES – Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) get away for what they hope will be a romantic weekend at the Gilbert family lake house, not realizing that they’ve been followed. Jenna (Sara Canning) starts to worry that Alaric (Matt Davis) isn’t being honest with her. Jules (guest star Michaela McManus) explains the importance of the sun and moon curse to Tyler (Michael Trevino), but leaves out an important detail. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) attends a tea at the Historical Society in order to talk to Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies), but Elijah isn’t giving up any secrets. With help from Caroline (Candice Accola) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) uses deceptive measures to get shocking new information out of Luka (guest star Bryton James). Finally, Tyler offers Matt (Zach Roerig) some relationship advice.

Just try to picture Tyler and Matt bonding over a beer and a unicorn chaser with Tyler acting as Agony Aunt:

Dear Doctor Lockwood,

I’ve noticed that you’ve been pulling in the ladies lately with your weird sadomasochistic aesthetic, like your slave dungeon make out spots and hot studded dog collars. Any tips on how I can spice up my game?

Dear Doctor Lockwood,

I’ve noticed recently that I have this weird fetish for Mattel’s Vampire Barbie toys. You know the ones… they have little fangs that pop out when you smear liquid on their mouth and the come with their own little designer blood bag. Do you think my obsession is a sublimation of creepy circumstances in my hometown that my pretty blonde head can’t comprehend? Is it because I am pretty much a living Ken Doll myself? Or does it point to deeper seated issues?

Tyler, a relationship guru?

Believe me, I’m feeling you right now, Damon.

In all fairness, Tyler has given Matt reasonably good advice in the past, like saying that he had to take the good with the bad when it came to Caroline when Caratt were still dating (although he called Caroline a “bitchy little twit” in the process).

But despite seeing a different side to him lately, Tyler is still the boy who took an African-American girl down to a slave dungeon for a hot make out session and asked Matt the question: “Is it me or did Thing One’s ass get hot?”

“Me? Never!” Oh, you totally did, Tyler. I love you anyway.

Recent experiences no doubt will have made Tyler grow up fast, so we might see a kindler, gentler version of him. Also, in the last episode both Matt AND Tyler discovered Caroline had been lying to them (with good intentions). Matt caught Caroline in a lie about being with Bonnie, a weak cover story she told him in an attempt to protect him from the vamp/were battle that had just spilled over. Tyler, of course, discovered that there were other vamps in town other than Caroline, and the truth behind his uncle Mason’s sudden disappearance.

Looks like werewolf PMS isn’t restricted to once a month

Although Tyler is unlikely to go into the specifics, we might find out in retrospect, through his conversation with Matt, how he feels about the unlikely friendship with Caroline and how her lies affected him. Equally, Matt could share his frustrations about Caroline continuously dodging him and avoiding his questions about the status of their relationship.

Source

We might even simply see Tyler make a noble gesture and reassure Matt that there is nothing between him and Caroline, in an attempt to make sure Caroline has a steady anchor like Matt in her life.

To be honest, Tyler’s less than noble actions in Daddy Issues aren’t out of character. Caroline may have brought out a good side of him, sure, but he is yet to do a truly selfless gesture. I think the Forwood blinders made us think he had undergone more character growth than have may have actually done. Hopefully the Caroline rift will bring some of that about.

It’s a little sad that Matt and Tyler can no longer really talk in a real way though, what with the wall that separates werewolf Tyler from Matt, who is yet to be in the know about the supernatural goings on in Mystic Falls.

My sadness is fickle though. I would be perfectly content for Matt to receive a bloody end from a run in with a mythical creature in Mystic Falls.

Sorry, Matt fans, but it’s true!

According to an interview Julie Plec just did with Zap2It, “We’re about to dive deep into Matt world”.

FFFUUU

“Matt’s been kind of busing tables on the sidelines for a good portion of this season, trying to understand what’s going on in this non-relationship with this girl that he cares about but doesn’t understand,” Plec says. “We’re about to really heat that up and have him start asking a lot more questions. He’s really trying to get to the bottom of Caroline’s feelings for him and where he wants to them to be as a couple.” Now that Tyler’s in the doghouse, Matt and Caroline may have another chance at a real relationship. “In the last episode before we go away for hiatus, there’s a really great Matt and Caroline moment that I think will make you very happy,” Plec says.

Feel free to take a moment to jab hot pokers into your eyes, fellow Forwood fans.

Or if you are adept at Tumblr-y stuff, deface the f**k out of some Matt/Care photos in Photoshop until you feel better and give me something to post in my Got Forwood recap for Crying Wolf. I bet I’ll need it 😉

Look, this is nothing against Zach Roerig, who I think is a good actor and insanely hot in his own right, but something is rotten in the state of Mystic Falls (OK, MF is not a state, but ya get my drift, right?) with my Mother Ship, that is for sure.

I am up for some Tyler angst as a result of Caratt action and tension in the Tyler-Matt friendship, but only if it’s a stepping stone on the path to a Forwood porch reunion.

It’s obvious that Caratt will be back together by the end of Crying Wolf, but it looks like before long they’ll be slipping back into old habits, of Matt being passive-aggressive and Caroline trying to be what he wants rather than what she is.

Check out the episode description for The House Guest (S02E16):

A NIGHT OF CONFESSIONS — Katherine’s (Nina Dobrev) mind games are getting on everyone’s nerves, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) realize that her knowledge of Mystic Falls history will help them stay alive. Frustrated with her relationship with Matt (Zach Roerig), Caroline (Candice Accola) finds a new way to get his attention. Alaric (Matt Davis) makes a surprising confession to Jenna (Sara Canning), and Katherine makes a different kind of confession to Damon. Stefan and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) try to convince Jonas (guest star Randy Goodwin) and Luka (guest star Bryton James) that they should all be working together, but Jonas’ lack of trust leads to a violent and fiery confrontation. Steven R. McQueen also stars. Michael Katleman directed the episode written by Caroline Dries.

Is there anyone out there who can tell me honestly that Matt, as much of a sweetie pie as he is, brings out the good side of Caroline? I’m always interested to hear the other side of the story, so argue your case below if you think he does.

I’m not against Caratt in the short term. I think that Caroline needs to come to terms with her feelings for Matt as much both she and Tyler needed to know the full, ugly truth about one another, so that if and when they get back together, they know exactly who they are with.

Now that lies have been stripped away, it is the time for definitive choices to be made. I can cut Tyler slack for not making the right choices in the heat of the moment of his first major supe fight in Daddy Issues.

The Vampire Diaries : Caroline and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

But now each choice he makes will define him.

As Michael Trevino said in an interview with the LA Times:

“He does make a decision in the new episodes to come. He does make a decision finally on what he wants to do and is he going to stick with Caroline and just not be involved with these other werewolves, whoever they are, wherever they came from. Or is he going to stick to the wolves and learn more about himself and stay with the pack and not have anything to do with vampires even if that means not talking to Caroline anymore. These decisions are going to be made.”

My gut clenches badly at the thought of him making the wrong choices.

In the promo for Crying Wolf, it is implied that Tyler has joined Team Wolf, but is still conflicted about hurting vampires who used to be part of his friendship circle.

We see Tyler pointing a gun at Stefan, presumably after having shot him, with Jules’ were toyfriend Brady encouraging him to kill Stefan.

Tyler-CryingWolfpromo

Stefan-CryingWolfpromo

Stefan is pain is pretty disturbing, though on the other hand it gives me flashbacks to Bondage Stefan, so I can take it 😉

Tied Up Stefan

The cutting in Vampire Diaries promos is so misleading that I wouldn’t be surprised if Brady is the one who popped off the first shot, before handing the gun to Tyler. I hope for Tyler’s sake he doesn’t shoot Stefan, because that is giving Damon to ride in open werewolf hunting season early this year.

A poster on a forum had a pretty cool conspiracy theory for Tyler’s actions… that he is Stefan’s spy!

Daddy-issues-Tyler-Stefan-Carol-Lockwood-Vampire-Diaries

There were large blocks of time left unaccounted for in terms of the interactions that Tyler and Stefan shared during Daddy Issues, when Stefan attempted to extend an olive branch. One thing that annoyed the hell out of me is that we didn’t see whether Tyler went voluntarily or against his will to go retrieve Caroline, which would have given more insight into his character motivations and helped prove whether his final moment of hesitation at helping Caroline was paralysis of fear or not.

It is pretty cool to think of Tyler under such deep cover that he might even get away with shooting Stefan… something I am sure Stefan would be happy to endure if it meant Tyler could infiltrate Team Were, which is just as determined to break the ancient Mayan curse, and ultimately help keep Elena safe. Maybe his mention of the moonstone at the end was a deliberate movement of Tyler’s on Stefan’s orders!

There are holes aplenty in this theory, I am sure, but it is awesome nonetheless 😉

Unfortunately, reading between the lines of Julie’s Plec’s Zap2It interview, the spy theory is pretty unlikely:

In the meantime, Tyler does have another full moon creeping up on him. “Homeboy does not want to have to transform,” Plec laughs. Once Tyler learns that the moonstone is the key to breaking the curse… along with a bloody sacrifice, of course, he’ll have some big choices to make.

“He’s definitely going to try to prevent the transformation from happening,” Plec says. “Tyler is about to make some decisions that aren’t going to be very popular. You’ll understand, but you’re not going to like it.”

I don’t blame him for wanting to avoid this

We know that if the curse is broken on the werewolves’ side it allows them transform at will, so logically you would think that means they wouldn’t EVER have to change unless they want to, although this hasn’t been made clear. Things will get very dark for Tyler, indeed, if he is willing to break the curse and knows that Elena will have to be sacrificed in the process. Perhaps this is the important detail mentioned in the Crying Wolf episode description that Jules leaves out when telling Tyler about the curse?

There is still some hope for the Forwood pairing, though, according to Plec:

Rainbow-unicorn

Source

“They both have been through – and are about to go through – some fairly traumatizing experiences,” Plec says. “The show is all about people coming to see the other side of the person in their life. To say they’ll never work it out would be tragically unfair. I absolutely think there’s hope.”

I mean, a staple of this show is seeing just how badly people can screw up relationships, and then rebuild them.

We’ve been hearing how tragic and dark it is going to get for Forwood, and this could be interpreted as either one of them dying, though I think there is so much untapped potential in the characters that I doubt the writers will kill them off.

For example, Tyler has rage issues, is the main werewolf connection for the show, has deep rooted wounds inflicted by a bad father-son relationship, and is torn between the vamp and were worlds because of Caroline. The writers have potentially seasons more of material left in him.

What if the tragedy is either or both of Tyler or Caroline’s mothers dying? Jules has already asked Tyler to run away with the wolf pack, to which he responded he couldn’t because he barely knew her and because his “mom would freak”. Now, that is like painting a big red target on Carol Lockwood’s back, don’t you think? I wouldn’t put it past Jules and Brady to kill Carol so that Tyler has no familial ties keeping him in Mystic Falls, and maybe even framing the vamps for the death.

Caroline’s She-Sheriff mother, who is part of the anti-vampire council (hilariously now headed by vampire Damon), is always in danger because of her job, so her death wouldn’t surprise me either.

Finally, the episode title of Crying Wolf is interesting. You can read this literally or metaphorically, or a combination of the two. Is Tyler distraught because of his destroyed relationship with Caroline or another tragedy that has befallen him? Has a character told one too many lies to be believed any longer?

What do you think?

Sound off below! I’d love to hear your speculations about Tyler, Caroline, Matt, the episode title, and just how many unicorn references you think I can work into my Forwood posts 😉

I will not analyze this whole stuff until the episode comes out. Like mentioned here, the promos are quite misleading and I think everybody knows there are basically two options for Tyler, staying or leaving. More I won’t say now, lets just wait two more days.

    • CherieBee27

Hi André! You definitely have more restraint than me! I love to analyse every little spoiler I can get my hands on, and then analyse the actual show to death afterwards to. I’m almost like a junkie with her fix when it comes to Forwood spoilers/speculation 😉

As long as Tyler ends up being redeemed, I could handle a brief departure. Heck, an awesome comeback towards the end of the season could work quite well!

  • André

    Just a quick question:
“We know that if the curse is broken on the werewolves’ side it allows them transform at will”

Was that actually ever stated officially (interview, show, etc.)? Because I heard it elsewhere but never from any official source.

    • CherieBee27

I can’t remember the exact episode (I’ll have to go digging), but there was definitely an implication that werewolves would no longer be constrained by the full moon when it came to transforming. I just took it as them deciding when they would change. I’m happy to anyone to prove me wrong!

      • André

Not constrained by the full moon, I know it was stated early in season 2 and Mason said if the curse was lifted, he wouldn’t have to change, but I can’t remember it ever being stated anywhere that the change was voluntarily in pre-curse times, like I said in another comment there were obviously enough transformed around for them to pose a serious threat (actually I still wonder how one shaman could be so powerful). But even if the transformation would get less painful with time, if the first ones are so agonizing to drive people to desperate measures, who would undergo such transformations willingly to begin with? And considered the state of the werewolves as presented so far in the show it would fit that they don’t really know anything from pre-curse time and their statements about it are pure myth based on wishful thinking.

        • CherieBee27

As it stands, the only way that breaking the curse could be appealing for the wolves is if it really does give the option of never turning again and/or makes turning painless or relatively so. I would quite like a world in which vampires and werewolves are evenly matched in powers, but one creature doesn’t have the distinctive advantage over the other of transforming not hurting at all while for the other it is agony, and transformation being able to occur at any time versus only in a set period (although the wolves proved in Daddy Issues that they are highly powerful even in human form).

I wonder too about whether breaking the curse will have the desire effects or if it is just myth based on wishful thinking. I’m waiting for an OMFG moment were breaking the curse does something for the Originals only and has an unknown effect on everyone else. Also, I keep waiting for WEREWOLF Originals to come into town. I want Elijah to be kept on his toes a little 😉

          • André

I just rewatched “Bad Moon Rising” and the original text mentions nothing about voluntary transformation. Quite the contrary, the statement on whether it can be controlled was “if it were a choice it wouldn’t be called a curse” which in my eyes implies “no”. But maybe we analyze too much, just because a story is good doesn’t mean everything is thought through. E.g. when I read Anne Rice I always thought it weird how her “normal world” just absorbed the supernatural without leaving any hint (not even the original Veronicas veil with an actual blinking face, it wast just gone and never mentioned again… wwweeeeiiiirrrrrddddd). So maybe it means nothing and the writers haven’t thought it through. Lets face it, that is nothing uncommon. :/

Personally I would like it if they come up with a supernaturalm species that wasn’t used so often. In the books Kitsune appeared, but there is the danger that the full potential of these beings is not used. In addition the dog-heads could play a role in the werewolf-origin, but again probably not going to happen (most people don’t even know what a rich mythology dogs have, actually even many scholars seem unable to differentiate between fiction and folklore). But I watch it for the plots anyway, not for the actual supernatural, because the truth is there hasn’t been much new stuff in that regard during the last century 😦

            • Spidey Sense

Hey, sorry I didn’t get the chance to respond before now, but my week has been crazy busy!

It looks like with the latest episode, as far as the werewolves understand, they have the option of changing whenever they want, or not at all. Now whether they have been misinformed is to be determined. I thought I would want the curse lifted for the werewolves, but this removes a lot of what makes it interesting – that it is something they can’t control. Although obviously vamps can have Anti Sun Rings created for them, the group with them seems relatively small, so I bet they would still want to break the curse.

I hope that the curse either isn’t broken and the sacrifice subverted, or if the curse manages to be broken in some form, that neither side receives what they thought they would (myths being tricky like that!). I don’t want either side to be unfairly advantaged, and I don’t want the curse to lift what makes both of these conditions so interesting.

You know, it is interesting that you mention how much you would like a new species to be used that doesn’t receive much focus ordinarily. The writers were actually going to pursue a story where Matt’s Mom was a succubus (a soul sucking demon), as seen in a deleted scene from season one, but never pursued it because season one already had so many storylines, plus Melinda Clarke, who plays the role, had a new series to start. Who knows? This might be that receives the focus you want in the future 😉

  • Sara (ofepicproportions)

As always I enjoyed your analysis. I like to let you analyze so I don’t have to ;]
And I don’t even bother watching the promos anymore because they’re so misleading. I like to be surprised :]

    • CherieBee27

Hehe! Glad you enjoyed it! I like being surprised, and to be honest a show like Vampire Diaries is probably best experienced with no knowledge of what is going to happen in each episode beforehand. But on the other hand, I love speculating SO DAMN MUCH that the last time I tried to go spoiler free I ended up going back for more like an addict within a day 😉 I’m always curious to see just how badly I can get it wrong, which is really, truly, incredibly, amazingly badly, based on my other spoiler posts (in some ways), and in others I can skate close to the truth.

I’m always curious to hear your conspiracy theories if you ever have any. I commend your restraint at not watching the promos. Though watching them lately as a Tyler fan is like being a masochist. There had better be more Werewolf Sex God kissing at the end of this long, bleak road, I tell ya!

      • André

Personally I advice, stick with the Promos if you have too, but nothing more. I read a few stuff on what might happen, who might appear etc. E.g. in Nov2010 it was stated that Klaus will not appear in S02, now I read somewhere else he will. So my advice to anybody would be: Watch Promos and the episodes but nothing more, ever, you will just get confused. And forget the books, the show is already so different it can no longer be called an adaptation anymore.

        • Spidey Sense

I wish I had your ability to just stick with the promos, but I love speculating too much for that. The way I see it, the promos themselves are misleading, and therefore the interviews are to be taken with a barrel of salt. But it is so much fun to theorise about what is going to happen, even if it never comes to pass.

So I’m gonna keep looking at every source possible, but don’t worry, I agree with you when it comes to knowing that many things I speculate are probably VERY wrong.

  • ThatPoppyGirl

I’m with you on this one.
Matt is adorable, but Tyler is Sex on Legs. Seriously!
He and Caroline have to, no, NEED TO, get together!
I’m sick of the writers trying to drag it out, its just like the Damon and Elena story.
Nothing drastic has really happened with that in a while, and the same will be said after Tyler leaves with Jules.
    *Sigh*

    • Spidey Sense

ThatPoppyGirl, clearly you are a woman with excellent taste in men! Speaking of Sex on Legs, I did a Tingling Trevino post called the “Walking Sex Edition”, so great minds and all that! 😉

Don’t you worry. Tyler and Caroline are being set up as an epic couple, where as I get the feeling they are giving Matt the last hurrah as “the one before the one”. I hope they don’t kill Tyler off at the end of the werewolf chapter, because there is so much they could explore in the Caroline/Tyler relationship. I with you on wanting to see the baby were and baby vamp date, and seeing the complications that go along with this.

The writers have had Caroline say to Tyler “We can’t go there”, thus labelling their relationship as forbidden. And they know that audiences want we can’t, and shouldn’t, have. So I would be mightily surprised if they don’t give it to us, albeit after a long, dark, twist road. But hey, as long as both halve of Forwood stay alive, I don’t care.

I love a slow boil, but I must admit I am eager for Delena and Forwood action as soon as possible. I think these are two rare couples where being together would add to the conflict and interest, rather than ruining the show. Tyler and Damon are volatile personalities, and thus are likely to cause internal conflict in their relationships, which I find is always more interesting than couples who purely respond to conflict from outside sources. The Delena and Forwood sex had better be explosive, is all I’m saying 😉
