SPOILER WHORE Got Forwood – Tyler & Caroline Speculation – The Dinner Party – Vampire Diaries

Oh, Jesus, it’s Caratt time.

Source

After becoming ridiculously invested in the Tyler/Caroline pairing on The Vampire Diaries, I may have turned to chocolate after Tyler left with his werewolf-y tail between his legs last episode.

Hey Tyler, shake that tailfeather!

Apparently I’m not too sad to make stupid jokes that involve Michael Trevino’s hotness, though 😉

You might ask, how the hell can you write Got Forwood recaps with him gone? Well, I still plan to track Caroline’s character trajectory regardless, just like I would for Tyler if she was the one who left. Plus, I am fully expecting some intense fallout from his departure from Mystic Falls for Werewolf Obedience School with Jules (DIE JULES DIE!).

But we’ll get to all of that in just a sec.

It’s kind of impressive how much the producers of the Vampire Diaries are like parents, forcing down unwanted vegies.

We had Elena’s psychotic Masked Avenger kidnapper a while back…

… who turned out to look a lot like the Carrot Top (TM KJewls from TV Recappers Anonymous) guy underneath the mask!

Needless to say, being an Elena kidnapper, he met the unicorns in heaven after an untimely end.

In The Dinner Party (S02E15), we are getting Caratt (Caroline/Matt).

Let’s fact it, who wants Caratt, when you can have dessert…

If Carrot Top’s brutal end is anything to go by, Caratt will have a spectacular demise, paving the way for much creamy Tyler-y goodness. Mmm!

Cher-mmm

Here is the episode description for The Dinner Party:

Stefan tells Elena about a dark time from his past and the unexpected person who changed everything for him. Jonas gets the truth out of Luka and makes his feelings clear to Bonnie and Jeremy. Damon schedules a dinner party with Alaric, Jenna, and Andie in attempt to catch Elijah off-guard, but some last-minute information disrupts Damon’s plan.

Now, no mention is made of Caroline, Tyler or Matt.

Tyler-Caroline-descent-Matt-grr

But we had better get some angst from Caroline about losing her Tylergasms, dammit!

The Vampire Diaries : Werewolves Do It In Chains

Source

I’m 99% sure that we will get some indication that Caroline cares that he has left, whether this is explicit or implicit. It would be nice to see her return to the cellar where she shared her most emotionally charged moments with him, and validate for us how real her feelings for him are. Candice Accola has such an expressive face that we would easily feel her raw pain without any tears.

If we get nothing, which I doubt will be the case, I will be extremely annoyed with the writers. Tyler/Caroline deserve to be an epic couple for the remainder of the series, not just a passing storyline.

I’m curious to see how Matt reacts to HER reaction about the news, since I bet that he will be the messenger. I also hope that Caroline doesn’t lose her right to Spidey tag “She ain’t no MJ Watson!” while trying to patch things up with Matt.

Tyler, for his part, has left not just to come to grips with his new self-identity, but also to escape Caroline. Could you imagine seeing someone you’re in love with from a distance every day, but not being able to get any closer?

I suspect it would feel like this…

 kickinthenuts

When he said that he can’t stay in Mystic Falls, “not like this”…

I can’t stay here. Not like this.

Source

…I’m sure he was also referring to the need to escape Caroline, and being young enough to believe that physically being away from her would be enough to forget her. But if you changed everything to run away from someone, it is inevitable that you would think about them even more. In Tyler’s case, I bet he would be torturing himself about everything that has happened, reliving it all, and thinking about what he could have done differently.

So, when Tyler comes back for the final full moon, as Julie Plec has confirmed, I am expecting him to be primed for dessert-y make up sex of the highest order.

Source

Oh, he’ll be back, bitches!

Until then, here are some more appetisers…

Aww, I bet you knew I’d include at least one of the Brow Thing, didn’t ya?!

I absolutely agree that we will get to see some reaction on Caroline’s part, when she learns from Matt about Tyler leaving town. Unfortunately, Matt is not a Complete Dummy. And, since he still wants inside those Vampire Barbie pantalones, I suspect the Blonde One will carefully leave out the part of the story where Tyler told Matt he had FALLEN for Caroline.

(No worries though. I can see this little tidbit of information coming out at a crucial moment. This will likely happen a bit later in the season — possibly once Matt realizes that he can never truly make Caroline happy, as long as Tyler remains in her heart.)

As for Caroline, I can see her PUBLICLY acting like Tyler’s departure doesn’t faze her at all. She will put on a brave face to everyone, as she is wont to do. But then, once she has had time alone to process the information, I envision some seriously heartbreaking Puppy Dog Eyes coming from her, and maybe even some tears. I like your idea of this outpouring of emotion occuring in the “dungeon” where Forwood first forged its everlasting bond.

Given the episode synopsis for this week, I’m not entirely sure we will see Caroline at all in “The Dinner Party.” It’s possible the writers will have their hands full this hour between the Stefan and Elena storyline, and the Damon/Alaric/Elijah/Jenna/Andie one, which, from the looks of it, will likely be completely separate from one another until the end of the episode?

It wouldn’t be the first time an important character was completely absent from an episode, even though she or he was technically “in town” at the time. Then again, I could be wrong . . . I have been before. 🙂

Not in it, in fact its only a day after Crying Wolf, but I guess you knew that before I did, since I don’t get it the show over here so I always have to wait until someone [you know what] it, to watch it. However the episode turned everything around in the end.

You know, the show keeps TELLING us what a nice guy Matt is, and though for the most part he has displayed maturity beyond his years, his dismissive behaviour towards Caroline has shown us that his behaviour isn’t beyond reproach. If the writers want me to become more invested in Matt, and therefore the triangle when Tyler returns, I really need him to divulge this information to Caroline. This would give me pause and lead me to think that he is a worthy contender for her heart. If he withholds this information, it will show that he really is just as selfish as the rest of us!

If he reveals this information at a crucial moment (say, before his death 😉 jk, I hope he lives), I will look upon him fondly forever, and possibly even briefly imagine what it would be like to have blue eyed babies with him rather than pups with Tyler.

Vampire Barbie pantalones made me LAUGH AND LAUGH. I hope she has a little brush and camper van too!

There’s a whole repository of puppy looks coming out of this relationship. Kicked Puppy, Puppy Dog Eyes, and hopefully Sick Puppy (as in get ur freak on with Caroline Tyler!)

It turns out you were right about the TC absence, apart from a token “Carol Lockwood is flipping out” reference. I hope they don’t short change us by not having Caroline at least show a tiny flicker of a reaction. The Dinner Party was so jampacked that I would be happy for the writers to wait to do the situation justice, but they are on probation until I see some TC goodness, dammit!

I think its hart to tell what Caroline will do once she hears about Tyler having left. This due to two points:
    1. We have no idea what the producers plan and let’s face it she is not one of the main three so it is very likely that some threads concerning her will be dropped as it had happened with other characters (sadly, she is a character that interests me more than the main three, maybe because we don’t see so much of her [so more mystery there]; its similar with other characters).
    2. Yeah she may be hurt, but the question is whether that is enough to overcome the hurt she faced when Tyler stood there motionless when she was threatened by a gun after being tortured. And all this had happened just recently (at the time of Dinner party I think two weeks max, maybe) so I bet the memory didn’t had any chance to fade yet. I wouldn’t be surprised that in her eyes it might be an “I tried to be good and this is what I got”-situation.

As for analyzing her, I think normally she would probably have nightmares of the whole ordeal or we see something similar to Jeremy in season 1. At first it seemed as though he was ok after the whole compulsion but it became clear after a while that the emotional wound was not gone and maybe something similar happens to Caroline. I hope it will get interesting, but you know, see point 1 above.
It is possible that Tyler’s inaction was a very bad betrayal in her eyes that weights far more than everything she did (she did it to protect him, what was his excuse? Confusion? That would sound like a bad joke after such a situation). After all Tyler’s emotional immaturity showed itself again in Daddy Issues, if I would be in Caroline’s situation (at her age) and would see him after this I wouldn’t see any real guilt with such an “emotionless”-face (I can clearly see his guilty conscience now, but with age 17 or 18, I probably would have missed the signs). Furthermore Caroline isn’t Damon, he can just shake off being tortured, but not her and to be honest I would have never classified her as “vamp”-material. I mean that in the long run (100 years and up) a character like her wouldn’t make it.
Furthermore I think that Matt would be better for her at the moment, or in general (when he stays human it has no future, we all know that and it similar with Tyler unless the wolves are all of a sudden immortal [if yes there would be the question what happened to George Lockwood]). I think someone like Caroline is like a kite that needs and “anchor” in a relationship not to fly off and that anchor is more likely Matt than Tyler.
Tyler would need someone that tells him to his face what is going one, since he is not a bad guy but seemingly has problems with seeing the things how they are and not how he wants them to be. However, so far the only people who in my eyes had the habit of telling someone straight to the face what is going on even if that person didn’t want to hear it were Matt and Jeremy (and both clearly didn’t had many reservations of doing exactly that with Tyler).

    • Spidey Sense

You know, in season one the producers were pretty good about not dropping threads – maybe they would ignore a character arc, but only when each phase had some degree of resolution. This season they haven’t always had the follow through. However, I do have some degree of faith in the high quality writing that has been done for TC so far.

Take the porch metaphor for instance that a commentator noted on TWoP. Depending on Caroline’s relationship with Tyler and Matt, they have been positioned in various areas in Care’s house or porch to show their emotional connection to her at the time.

Tyler initially had to break into Caroline’s house (and symbolically her heart), when he was desperate to find out whether she was another werewolf. Later on, he was invited inside the house when they were bonding. Yet, when he discovered the truth about Mason, he distanced himself from the house, standing far away in the drive way from her vantage point. When he tried to reconnect with her and say sorry for all that happened in the Daddy Issues episode, she not only refused to let him inside but slammed the door to him, mirroring how, for the time being, she had closed her heart to him.
When Matt came to kiss and make up, she stepped out of the house and onto the porch, not letting him inside. Now, obviously it was partly because Tyler was inside. But whereas Matt was being kept in the dark and at arm’s length, at this point she had let Tyler in fully.

So this is a very long way of saying that I would be surprised if, after all the thought that has gone into TC encounters, that the producers don’t in the very least honour the connection they have so thoughtfully and carefully developed.
Caroline is interesting to me too, but for a different reason… I feel that with her and Tyler, there is a lot of showing rather than telling. Neither character is a master communicator, and they rarely narrate their feelings to the audience. You really have to work to understand scenes that they are in, whether together or apart. The meaning isn’t just handed to you on a silver platter… you noticed little parallels and subtle touches that the writers have added to their scenes that make them resonate really strongly, which makes it compelling for you to go back and re-watch what you might have missed.
The great thing about the TC pairing is how much room for debate there is with them. I know that you disagree pretty strongly with me on this point, but I don’t think Caroline should have been in the position to feel like she was the only wronged party in this situation. If Tyler was more articulate, he could have explained “I thought you were a spy, or that we were never really friends, and I only realised now that is not the case”. Just like Caroline was at a loss for words when he exploded “I trusted you!” at her earlier in the episode. So much hurt and heartache could have been avoided if she told him THEN that she had lied to protect him. I also think that it was wrong of her to filter information through Stefan – Stefan has an anti-wolf bias, perhaps not as strong as Damon’s, but certainly enough to not have established a proper rapport with Tyler.

I suspect that Caroline might feel a little guilt herself over how everything happened.

Also, I hope she acknowledges that it was his first supe battle, and not everyone knows how to react – some of us freeze in high pressure situations, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that we don’t care about those hurt by our inaction.

I definitely agree with you that Caroline can’t just shake off the torture, and her hardened expression at the end of Daddy Issues is evidence of that. I’m curious to see how this plays out in her interactions with all of the characters. You know, on paper Caroline might not have seemed like the ideal vampire, but don’t forget that your human qualities get amplified as a vampire. So, her type A, control freak personality as a human means that, as a vamp, she has self-control that others of her kind lack. Plus, she has a bright outlook on life that I think helps her keep the darkness under control. So, in some ways, she has turned out to be just about the best candidate ever as a vamp!

I do think that she will have to come to terms with similar issues in her relationship that Stefan and Elena are facing – like her never aging. She hasn’t experienced the rootlessness that the Salvatores have over the years, constantly forced to keep moving so that people don’t notice they aren’t aging. One day she will have to be uprooted from her home in Mystic Falls. We’ve only seen kickass vamp Caroline. There are bound to be downsides other than her initial uncontrollable bloodlust that will come into play later on.

Matt may be the better man for the time being in some ways, but I think he will never appreciate Caroline in the way that Tyler, who views her as “pretty incredible” with no passive-aggressive equivocation involved. I actually think Caroline isn’t good for Matt, because he has never quite seemed to respect her in the way that he respects Elena. I could be surprised with future developments, but I think that their relationship is one built on a shaky foundation.

I can see what you are saying about Matt and Jeremy being characters who have confronted Tyler. But I actually think Caroline has demonstrated a great capacity for snark and an ability to tell Tyler what’s what. For example, she wasn’t afraid to verbalise her feelings of annoyance, pre-kiss, that he finds it difficult to let others help him. She could have slammed the door immediately in his face in the final TC of Daddy Issues, but she voiced all of her feelings and got them out into the open before doing so. Back when she helped him through the transformation, she wasn’t afraid to let him know when she was feeling helpless, too (“I want to help but I don’t know what to do). I actually think Caroline is quite a strong personality and her bubbliness and Vampire Barbieness balance out his intensity quite nicely.

It’s funny, because softies (Matt is definitely one, and I would argue that Jeremy and Mason are/were too), tend to get along best with Tyler (at least, when they’re not fighting over the same girl). Tyler definitely doesn’t seek out other alpha males for active companionship.

      • André

If you mean with “alpha male” that Tyler usually just boasts aloud than he is one, respectively he would fit the stereotype that is often associated with male werewolves, albeit only to a degree since they don’t seem normally to be shown with a softer site like in his case. However an actual alpha in the sense of leader; there is currently no hint for that in the show (how surprising he? 😉 ). Maybe he seeks “softies” out because he is more of one than he admits to himself; he seems to hide his emotional wounds more than actually dealing with them.

Maybe you are right about the porch metaphor, maybe not; you know sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. So maybe you and I both are interpreting too much in certain things. 

They probably won’t just forget about the whole Tyler-Caroline thing but in which way they “honor” it, I can’t tell. As to yet we don’t even know when Tyler will return and in what form.
Like I stated elsewhere I would have wished for a male-female-pairing without any romantic feelings that can last “through the ages” so to speak, but maybe that is just my wishful thinking for something new.

With your talk about Stefan you bring something up I never thought much about, maybe a lot could have been avoided if he wouldn’t be so overprotective sometimes. Similar like in the relationship between Elena and Jeremy, you know she would like to have him out of it all (understandable) however it didn’t seem to work at all. Similar with the whole Tyler story at the time, keeping him in the dark didn’t really work out as well, ok telling him everything might have been bad, but maybe with a bit more info…

Now that I think about it, Jeremy’s position would be excellent for a spy, close enough to get much information and on the other hand unnoticed enough to a sufficient degree (meaning he is not seen as an actual thread by, well anybody).

Ok, save to say that this late in the season they won’t drop any threads because showdown is approaching fast.

I am not sure that control-freak equals self-control. As for the rest of her behavior as a reaction to the whole thing, I think we have to keep in mind how fast/slow the show approaches, e.g. “Dinner Party” happened the next day after “Crying Wolf” so it’s hard to say what has so to say sunken in with any of the characters.

It was this never aging what I meant, I am not sure whether Caroline is a person that could deal very well with being – theoretically – immortal. But maybe we don’t have to worry about that since, no offense, but in comparison there aren’t many shows that ever last beyond season 7. To be honest, I would prefer some leaps in time in the show.

As for Tyler and the way he sees her, don’t forget his impulsiveness and his doubtless emotional immaturity, like I said he seems to actually fall in love pretty quickly. Furthermore personally I wouldn’t interpret any romantic feelings from Caroline’s site simply because she helped him (which many fans did). Based on how she experienced her transition she would be a bitch not to sympathize with Tyler, anybody who wouldn’t do the same could be called a jackass without a doubt, especially after seeing the Mason video.

For Caroline being snarky is no surprise based on her previous behavior however she hadn’t told him things flat to the face quite s fast as Matt and Jeremy did, who obviously know who to undermine Tyler’s defenses. But I say let’s wait a while before we interpret more, let’s see what the writers have in store for us. 😉

Although there is one thing I would like to see: Katherine being beaten up, man she deserves it. That’s why I don’t like that Rose is dead, now the oldest vampires on the show are again the biggest bastards.

Ok first off…Tylergasms. I laughed considerably loud and got a weird look from my mother.

I love that you have this new found appreciation for Trevino’s ass. The wardrobe department had been putting him in these jeans that fit right in all the right places. I also have this weird fascination with his eyelashes. They are just so long. Since we are on the top of Trevino and his hotness I have spent a lot of insanely-stalker-like time admiring him and I’m the only one who has noticed that he has his ears pierced? LOL I just found it very hot. Guy ear piercings were big when I was in HS so I just love that the trend didn’t pass Trevino either lol. I’ll stop now.

I have faith that we will get some kind of reaction from Caroline about Tyler’s departure from Mystic Falls. I do hope it is Matt who gives her the news, just to try and keep it love-trianglely. To show Matt and the viewers that Caroline does indeed have feelings for Tyler than may run deeper than friendship and the fact that he has left town does have an affect on her.

I have said the same thing as for my expectations about how she has her moment; I would love for her to go back to the Lockwood cellar and just cry it out. Too much to ask I’m thinking.

Julie Pec confirmed that Tyler WILL be back? I mean, I knew he would be back, but it’s been confirmed? Or wishful thinking?

    • André

I think she somewhere stated that there will be another full moon before the end of the season. And I think we can be sure about Tyler returning, maybe with some more wolves, they probably wouldn’t just drop the whole curse thing, whether he knows all the details then…

    • Spidey Sense

Trevinogasms also occasionally pop up on this blog. I’m hoping that one day I can actually go to a convention and livetweet it, saying stuff like “look, there he goes walksexing with his Trevino!Ass” or “Tylergasm incoming!”

Those black skinny jeans (I guess that would be the right term? Though they aren’t uber tight, just fitted nicely!) are just mouthwatering. The wardrobe designer seemed to like putting him in these cargo shorts that did his legs no favours. But give me those jeans anyday, baby!

I only really noticed his eyelashes when you pointed them out on your blog, and now I can’t stop noticing how think and long they are! I hadn’t noticed he has his ears pierced, but I will be going on a Trevino bender checking out these details. Seriously, any excuse to stare closely at pictures of him!

The thing that bugs me about Matt is that he has clearly neglected his best friend to the point where he didn’t even notice Tyler has been going through a rough time; he might not know the specifics, but surely he must have twigged that something was wrong? Although to be fair, maybe he is used to Tyler having issues, what with his screwed up relationship with his father and rage issues.

Tyler’s departure might not rock Care in the way it would have rocked him if she had left – I get the feeling Tyler was becoming dependent on her support, and one reason why it is positive for him to get some space is that he can learn to be strong as individual without her as a kind of crutch. Only then can they enter a relationship as true equals.
Julie Plec confirmed there would be another full moon as a signpost for the show and I can vaguely remember her mentioning that Tyler would rock up, though I haven’t had a chance to dig through my interviews to find the exact source. Even so, a CW source confirmed to EW that Tyler would be back, so we should be sitting pretty.

God, I can’t wait for the reunion scene between Tyler and Caroline. It truly will be epic in every sense of the word!

      • Gen

LOL! I want to do the same dude! We need to go to a convention together. I’ve never been to any and I’m dying to go to a TVD one. Trevinogasms and Tylergasms will be had all over the place lol.

I love those skinny jeans. Guh. Oh yeah, the first thing I noticed where those long eyelashes. I’m insanely jealous of them. Boys always get these long eyelashes and there is no need for them, except when they are eyesexing.

That bugged me as well. I know the writers can’t always keep up with all the friendships, when there is so much going on. The girls don’t hang out anymore and the boys’ friendship were neglected as well. What happened to Jeremy and Tyler’s friendship? So when Matt came up to Tyler in “The Sacrifice” and apologized it made me all kinds of happy. I thought they were going to start being friends again, and then…nothing. Matt has a lot to deal with on his own and it’s sad that neither one could turn to the other.

I’ve said the same thing about Tyler becoming too dependent on Caroline. I think it stems from always being alone and never really having anyone care about him. When he got that from Caroline I’m sure it became something he didn’t want let go and wanted more of. It wasn’t surprising that he would form feelings for her. She was the first person who trully cared about him and despite how horrible he was in S1 she helped him anyway. It was a genuine act of compassion on her part. Both entered their relationship with each other without any romantic feelings, which is something I loved. They will always first and foremost be friends. What happens romantically with them I don’t think that can be taken away. We all have our fights with our closest friends, but we always manage to come back together. I believe that will happen with T/C when Tyler comes back.

There will be some serious fangirling on my end when he comes back. Squeeing and crying will most likely be happening lol. It will definitely be epic. The fandom is going to explode. 🙂

        • André

Now that you say it, I see that you’re right, the friendships weren’t developed any further by the writers. I think its the whole triangle of the “big three” it takes too much time with the fast pacing of the show, the characters are practically thrown from one action scene to another.

          • Gen

Right. Friendships were established in S1 and were forgotten in S2. We saw a lot of Tyler and Matt hanging out during S1 and just a few episodes into S2 they were not anymore. Tyler’s curse and Matt’s guilt for starting the fight played apart of course, but I really wish they could have had more scenes together.

            • Spidey Sense

I hope they re-establish some of these friendships, because it’s all of these emotional connections that make Vampire Diaries such a rich show. I’m all for ships, just as long as they aren’t at the expense of friendships. Part of the reason why I like TC so much is because their relationship was originally built purely on friendship, and romantic feelings were purely incidental to this.

Jeremy and Matt play off Tyler so nicely, and while I can understand why Tyler would withdraw from Matt (to protect him from supernatural stuff), I was disappointed that Jeremy hasn’t yet checked up on him. Maybe the Jyler dream team will come together again a little later down the track. I think these two could do pretty cool things if they put their heads together!
