I’m still coming down from the glitter and rainbow high of Caroline forgiving Tyler.
I’m a little apprehensive though. The Vampire Diaries writers love putting a couple back together only to pull the rug out from underneath you. Like Tyler finding out about Caroline lying to him the very night he kissed Caro. Or for that matter, Matt discovering that Caro is a vampire the night she serenades him with karaoke (incidentally, Matt’s cray cray face in that scene was the only thing that allowed me to swallow the vomit in my mouth from the sight of the amazing Caroline having to sing sense into a stupid boy)
Strangely therapeutic, no?
Now, I’ve been praying to God to deliver me from Matt Donovan for a while now…
But all of a sudden he became awesome last episode, standing up to Sheriff Forbes about Caroline’s humanity, killing a witch that incapacitated Tyler and Caroline (Team Human 1 Team Supe 0), and managing to wake up after a pistol whipping from Damon in time to run away from the wolfed out version of Tyler.
No one was more surprised than me.
You guys, what if he continues this new streak of awesomeness? It is almost too mind-blowing to contemplate!
We ended last week with Matt and Caroline trapped in the Lockwood cellar, separated from gangsta Tyler!Wolf (TM Gen) with a fence that looks about as sturdy as an 80 year old’s hip.
In short, they are in more trouble then a pregnant nun.
Let’s look at this week’s promo and speculate away, shall we? I’ll also break down a very recent, VERY SPOILERY interview with Trevino about The Sun Also Rises and beyond.

Last week, Caroline tried to get through to Wolf!Tyler by speaking to him…
… so it’ll be interesting to see if she has any luck. We’ve seen Mason, Tyler’ uncle, respond to Tyler’s forceful “NO!” when Mason was attacking Caroline in Bad Moon Rising, but that may have just been a pack recognition thing.
I have a feeling Caroline won’t be able to get through to Wolf!Tyler because he’ll be hell bent on cocking a leg on Matt.
Assuming the gate doesn’t hold, I wonder who Wolf!Tyler would lunge at first. Werewolves are meant to naturally go after vampires over humans, but maybe on some level Wolf!Tyler recognises Matt as his rival for the object of his (human) affections.
Just in case those of you who weren’t feeling more generous towards Matt last week hope that Tyler marks his territory by ripping out Matt’s throat, I’m afraid it is highly unlikely you will get your wish.
A spoilerific interview Trevino did with Latina indicates that Tyler, Caroline and Matt will all last through their cellar experience alive and (relatively) unscathed. Trevino explains that there will be a little love triangle awkwardness, which obviously couldn’t exist if any parties were dead or seriously harmed.
What can you tell us about tomorrow night’s episode?
It continues from the {previous} episode so it’s still night time. Everybody else is trying to get the ritual done and Tyler has transformed back. We see the aftermath of the relationship between Tyler, Caroline and Matt once Tyler’s back in his form. We see how they all interact with one another within that “love triangle.” And that’s important because this is the first time that Matt {Zach Roerig} has seen Tyler in his wolf form, so it’ll explain that and you’ll kind of get Matt’s perspective on it and how he feels about it the first time he sees Tyler change.
Will we see a lot of tension between Tyler, Caroline and Matt?
I wouldn’t say tension — because tension to me sounds like it’s a bad thing, {like something} negative. But I would say, on edge, very cautious.
I am hoping that some of the awkwardness between the trio is a result of Tyler being completely unclothed when he morphs back into a human, if Matt and Caro are stuck in the cellar for the whole time he is wolfed out.
Caroline might pretend to be embarrassed, but you just know how she would be REALLY feeling on the inside:
All spoilers aside, I’m curious to see if Matt actually goes through with shooting Tyler with the wooden bullets from the gun he has on hand.
In the promo, Caro tries to stop him from shooting by screaming “No, Matt. It’s Tyler!” and in response Matt says, “It’s trying to kill us!”
Notice that Matt doesn’t follow Caro’s lead by personifying the wolf snarling at them. He doesn’t say, “He’s trying to kill us”, but “it’s“.
Matt has been conflicted in recent weeks about whether Caroline is a soulless monster or if she is a vamp with humanity left in her. It’ll be interesting to see what he ultimately decides to do when faced with the bestial version of Tyler’s supernatural identity, in comparison to vamps who retain a relatively human visage even when vamping out.
Just put a foot wrong, Matt, and I’ll totally give you the stink eye.
Yes, I guess you could argue that Tyler would rather his friends kill him than pose a threat to their lives. On an intellectual level, I can accept this. But if Matt actually shoots his friend, even though Tyler will obviously be okay, on an emotional level I’ll be tempted to reach through the screen and de-heart Matt myself.
According to Trevino, the episode will be a “game changer” for Tyler and Caroline.
Describe tomorrow night’s episode in just three words?
Oh man. {Laughs}. In three words? Sad. Game changer. In my honest opinion, I feel like more happens in tomorrow’s episode than in the finale – and I’m not saying that because I’m not in the finale! Once the fans see the episode, I’d like to see what people’s opinion is about which one was a big game changer – was it episode 21 or episode 22? And in my opinion I think it’s 21.
Is it a game changer in particular for Tyler?
Yes. It’s definitely a game changer within the relationship of him and Caroline.
And
Your costar Nina Dobrev recently said there would be “a lot of tears” after tomorrow’s episode and we know there’s a rumor that a werewolf will be sacrificed. PLEASE tell us this isn’t the end for Tyler Lockwood?
Tyler is a little bit too tough right now to go anywhere. He’s a little bit too tough to be sacrified that easy. I have no doubt that Tyler will be in season three.
How much of Tyler will we get to see in the episode?
I’m not in the episode a whole lot, but the two scenes are very important to the journey that Tyler has in the future in Mystic Falls and it has to do with the trio (Tyler, Matt and Caroline). It’s big! It opens up a new door. There’s a new window of opportunity there.
Once you’ve finished *EnjoyTheSilence* dancing to the news that Tyler will survive through to season three, let’s consider the possibilities of what this game changer could be.
Tyler nearly bites Caroline/Matt in wolf form, and when they tell him this he decides to stay away from them for their own good. Obviously the Tyler-kills-Matt-in-wolf-form theory won’t pan out, since Trevino describes the weirdness that ensues in the triangle once Tyler morphs back into human form.
Matt shoots Tyler in wolf form, and though this doesn’t kill Tyler, it upsets Caroline deeply and she cuts Matt out of her life and realises how deep her feelings for Tyler are when faced with losing him. Yes, I’ve been reading Forwood fan fiction. Why do you ask? 😉
Caroline discovers that Tyler has betrayed her in some way or does something bad, possibly to Matt because he is mad about Matt double crossing Caro – he might even be the master betrayer that the spoilers/foilers outlined earlier in this thread indicate will make a huge impact.
Tyler tells Caroline he loves her. Actually stating his feelings out loud would force Caroline to confront head on what exactly he means to her.
Tyler gets super mad at Caroline for betraying his confidence to Matt about being a werewolf. I mean, they didn’t really deal with the fallout of “Matt knows about you?!” and maybe he’ll be upset that Matt knew he was a wolf before seeking them out at the tomb.
Sheriff Forbes stumbles into the mix while Tyler is wolfed out and he kills her.
Klaus tries to tempt Tyler to the dark side to become a were-vamp hybrid paving the way for Tyler/Caro babies.
I’m not sure how the “window of opportunity” fits in to all of this. What do you think the “game changer” will be?
One thing I wonder if they will address is Matt’s misguided belief that he was responsible for Sarah’s AKA Thing One’s death. Hopefully Tyler or Caroline will let him know that he was compelled into goading Tyler into a fight at the masquerade ball and not a guilty party in a series of events that triggered her death.

Ok, I’m a bit calmed down now.
First, I have to point out that your metaphors get me laughing every single time, it’s too good to ignore. (I just HAD to quote you on Tumblr, you’re that darn awesome)
Then on to the speculating… I think, and I’m not saying this because I’ve been hooked up to my Forwood-fanficwire, the first spec is a pretty good one. Tyler bites Matt (can’t bite Caroline cause it’d be fatal), he feels so guilty he wants to stay away from her and Matt but Caroline holds him back this time. Tells him he doesn’t need to go away because they’ll all be there to help him with controlling it and managing to live like this.
I already told you about the speculation of mine of Klaus being able to compel werewolfs cause he’s a hybrid, so that plays into him calling out to Tyler who might be in agony or something. Wasn’t there someone once who said werewolfs feel each other dying or is that fanfic?? Cause then maybe he feels Jules dying and is puzzled over having to save her or attack a human&vamp. That’s a weird speculation. I want to delete but.. meh. Whatever.
What also could be the big revelation is Matt telling Caroline about the Sheriff and him, kinda her finding out about everything with Tyler morfing back in the background. And then he tells her he still loves her even with that, Tyler overhears and decides maybe Caroline is still better off with Matt then him because he could kill her. That’d be so sad and not really a game changer.
A game changer for Forwood would have to be that something actually happens. Because up til now, Tyler felt something for Caroline and admitted it to Matt. Caroline never really answerred to those feelings. A gamechanger could be Caroline telling Matt or Tyler she fell for Tyler. I would prefer it she told Matt, then they keep the suspense on Forwood a while longer. OR Caroline kissing it all better when Tyler is back in his human form.
A last speculation, is that someone kills the sheriff, conflicted the forever-alone-dilemma with Caroline and Caroline being confused of her feelings for Tyler when Tyler comes and comforts her. She could tell him: “I missed you. Us. And I’m happy you’re here with me. I needed that. I needed you.”

Bwahaha! I am glad that I am responding to this a little late, because I can comment on how damn prophetic, clairvoyant, omniscient, all-seeing, every other synonym you could dream up you were about Naked!Tyler. For reals, this episode was like visual fanfiction!

That was my reaction exactly. I did a few primal fangirl screams, told my dog Biff the good news (thought he’d appreciate it) and otherwise just freaked the fuck out. So I’m glad you are as happy as me!
So, by the time of writing we know that Tyler didn’t bite anyone, though Matt kinda deserved it in the episode. He was a colossal douche. I’m a little disappointed, because I was getting all revved up for an awesomesauce triangle where the winning suitor was obvious to moi but you could understand Caroline’s conflict. I thought the writers would try to milk the awkwardness of various parties knowing about people’s feelings that the object of affection themselves doesn’t know and being all jealous. I guess Matt could try to win Caroline back, but if she takes him back before hooking up with Tyler, I am expecting a monumental gesture on his part at this point.
Nice spec on Caroline telling Tyler he doesn’t need to go away!
Hmm, I’m not sure if werewolves feel each other dying, though that would be cool. I know that in the True Bloodverse, when a maker dies, their child feels it. If werewolves do in TVD, maybe Tyler will mention the physical loss he felt when Jules went.
So it the game changer was Matt choosing himself, or his human life, over Caroline, leaving the window of opportunity for Tyler to swoop in all manly and hot. What a shoulder to cry on, amiright? I would love it if Matt and Caro can at least be friends to one another if she doesn’t take him back (Matt is mature when it comes to break ups, I’ll give him that) – so that Caroline can confide in him her feelings for Tyler before actually telling Tyler. I want tonnes and tonnes of unresolved sexual tension between Tyler and Caroline next season, where both of them think their kiss meant nothing to the other aside from being an impulsive moment, even though secretly they are crushing on each other.
You know, I kinda think that without words Caroline ended up telling Tyler this episode that she missed him. Yes, glitter and rose pebbles fell from the sky in my mind! 😉

I don’t really know what to write this time. Normally in such a post I would jump in on all the promo-speculation. But that promo didn’t really give us much to speculate. Either you could see the characters clearly or you couldn’t make anything out of the picture at all. Kinda cruel if you ask me 😦
I guess one of the scenarios you mentioned will probably happen.
But I hope Tyler won’t become a were-vamp-hybrid. Considered that such a thing is possible that is, even if Klaus becomes one and survives that is (I think Plec stated something in that direction), there is still the question whether he could pass that condition on. The whole hybrid thing is so far kinda stupid in my eyes, but lets see what they make out of it. I will see whether I will get a halfway decent stream tomorrow after work. Then we will see what happens.
And to be honest, I also guessed that ep. 21 might be better than 22.

Yeah, I must be going blind in my young age, because I find it hard to register a lot of images in the Vampire Diaries promos – they go by in such a blur!
The werepire hybrid will either be insanely awesome or relentlessly terrible; I don’t think there will be middle ground on this. I found it interesting in the episode that when werepire Klaus was transforming, he seemed to almost RELISH wolfing out rather than finding it painful. Creepy! Also, his glowy eyes amidst his darkened and bloody face was scary as hell. Nice job, Joseph Morgan!

like I said, we will have to wait and see. Although I wonder whether we will get to know what happened to Katherine in ep. 22. She is still in Alaric’s rooms after all.
I will mpost my comment on your ep. 21 recap tomorrow. Kjewls was so long that I spent alot of time with that. Her’s I will post tomorrow as well, after some second or third reading. 😉

Those were some juicy little Tyler Tidbits you included in here! Thanks so much for all the great scoop! You know, I love how open Trevino is about what’s going on with his character in episodes he’s already filmed.
While so many other actors (not necessarily on this show, but on others) tend to get tight-lipped and smirky during interviews, spouting out non-answers of the “You’ll just have to wait and see variety,” you can always count on Trevino to be blunt, honest, and unabashedly spoilery. It’s really very refreshing! (Though, I suspect the writers probably curse him for it. You know how ornery Julie Plec can get about plotline spoilers. :))
The fact that Trevino openly admitted in a pre-Sweeps week interview that he (1) will not appear in the finale (though most of us already noticed that he didn’t appear in the credits for that episode); (2) will NOT die before the Season ends, nor will Matt likely bite the Big One, or so it would seem; and (3) will be prominently featured in Season 3, as well as be given a backstory as to what he did during his lost month, is a HUGE DEAL! It’s also REALLY great news, since, as Trevino said, there is still so much of Tyler that needs to be explored. Here is a character who GENUINELY has a story to tell. And Season 2 barely scratched the surface of who this guy is, and what makes him tick, particularly in light of his “new identity.”
As for speculation regarding this episode, I was excited to learn that we will get to see Caroline, Matt and Tyler ALL interact together, once Tyler returns to human form. It will be interesting to see how Tyler and Matt, interact with one another, when not in as DIRE circumstances as they were in during “The Last Day.” Of course, I would REALLY like SOMEONE to put Matt in his place, for how douchebaggy he’s been acting these past few episodes. So, hopefully the scenes in which Forwood and Matt are featured will delve into some of the threesome’s internal angst (and, of course, feature some heavy duty Forwood Eye F*&kery).
I’m usually incorrect in my predictions relating to this show, but I wonder if the game changer will have something to do with some revelation relating to where Tyler has been during the past month. If there is some way they can tie Tyler’s whereabouts to one of the many Originals’ Master Plans, that would mean GREAT things for the character in Season 3, in terms of his having an “A” level Plotline.
Otherwise, I would also LOVE to see Sheriff Forbes either be transformed into a supernatural creature (It would serve her right!) or just plain bite it. (Sorry, Caroline!) Hey, perhaps, she could be turned into a vampire and choose not complete her transformation? Or maybe she can be turned into a werewolf (Have we even established whether that is possible in this mythology yet?) and choose to kill herself. Poetic justice? I think so! 🙂
Whatever happens, I definitely agree that this episode will likely be the most intense and action-packed of the Second Season. Episode 21 will be all about action. Episode 22 will be all about aftermath, and, (all fingers crossed) Delena. 😉

I love how Trevino is literally incapable of keeping a secret. It makes you wonder why he doesn’t get in trouble for giving away such spoilery stuff, but I guess he just flashes a Naughty Puppy Caught Eating Designer Shoes (TM you!) look and all is forgiven!
Trevino also seems to give a really honest appraisal of his character and the various relationships on the show. For instance, at the beginning of season two, he gave an interview where he called the Matt/Caro relationship “wishy washy”, when asked about Tyler’s romantic prospects for the year. He also is the first to admit how much of a jerk Tyler is (like when Julie Plec said at the Chicago conference that the saw a lot of Tyler in Trevino during his audition, resulting in his hilarious, “really, cos I’m a jerk?!” response).
I am personally hoping that Tyler goes on a journey to self-discovery in season three and/or helps find a cure for Damon because he a) doesn’t want Stefan to kill him and b) would like to know in case Caroline ever gets bitten. He only just started to come to terms with heritage during his time with Jules. I also hope like Trevino that there will be an episode dedicated to outlining what Tyler got up to during his absence. If shirtless wolf camp scenes are included, I would not complain, I’m just sayin’ 😉
So, at the time of writing this comment, we know that Matt didn’t get put in his place by Caroline. I do hope, though, that Tyler gives Matt a talking to next year and gives him an earful for not being good to Caro like he asked before he left. I don’t think Matt/Caro will be entirely over until Caroline actively chooses not to be with Matt rather than being dumped. Hopefully this comes in the form of Matt wanting Caroline back when he sees her with Tyler and knows what he has lost, but Caroline tells him to just talk to the fang.
I loved your idea about a game changer being something to do with where Tyler was gone. Who knows, there might be a game changer of sorts in season three relating to this. I think Tyler is tied to the Originals in some way due to Elijah’s interest in the Lockwood family (e.g. setting up shop in the Lockwood mansion, compelling Tyler’s mother, the werepire nature of his brother Klaus). There are just too many coincidences for no connection to exist.
Now that I’ve got my fill of Forwood in these last two episodes, I can’t wait for Delena to finish the year out!

Oh, you know it! Just like this year was The Year of the Kat, next year will be The Year of Forwood! Woo hoo!
My wishlist includes: a second kiss, initiated by Caro this time; hot baby were and baby vamp action, preferably starting on Caro’s front porch; Tyler to tell Caroline “I love you”; and a cute play fight where they can take advantage of their supe strength to be all sexy and sweet.
